What comes in the Suhar Fire Kit?
The kit includes 1 Suhar Ferro Rod, 1 chunky piece of premium Fatwood, 10 Magic Cotton and 10 pieces of Waxed Jute. Three different fire-starting materials to cover different conditions, all packed into one compact kit.
Will the firestarters work when wet?
Yes. Our Magic Cotton and Waxed Jute are both designed to perform in wet conditions. The wax coating on the jute repels moisture, and the Magic Cotton formula ignites even from a single spark after being exposed to rain. The Fatwood’s high resin content makes it naturally water-resistant. Dry them briefly if fully soaked and they’ll perform as normal.
Which firestarter should I use first?
Magic Cotton and Waxed Jute are the easiest to light and work especially well for quickly getting a flame going. Fatwood is ideal when you want a natural tinder that burns for longer. You can also combine them depending on the conditions.
How much tinder do I need to start a fire?
You only need a small amount. Break up the end of a Magic Cotton or Waxed Jute bar to expose the fibers, or shave a small amount of Fatwood into a small pile. A little goes a long way, so there’s no need to use a whole bar or a large piece at once.
Can I use the kit with gloves on?
Yes. The Suhar Ferro Rod is designed for a firm grip even with cold or gloved hands. The striker is large enough to control comfortably and produce strong sparks even in winter conditions.
Is the packaging really plastic-free?
Completely. Every order ships in a kraft cardboard box filled with natural fiber — no bubble wrap, no plastic bags, no synthetic materials. Even the tape we use is paper-based. Step 1 — Prepare your tinder
Magic Cotton and Waxed Jute: Fluff the end to expose the fibers. Cut only what you need. Fatwood: Shave or scrape into a small pile.
Step 2 — Position and strike
Hold the rod close to the tinder. Draw the striker firmly down the rod in one smooth, confident motion. Aim the sparks directly at the heart of the tinder bundle.
Step 3 — Feed the flame
Once your tinder catches, feed with small dry material. Build up gradually until your fire is established.
