Can it get wet and still work?
Yes. Ferrocerium works even when wet, simply dry the rod briefly and it performs as normal. One of the key advantages over matches or lighters in wet conditions.
What tinders work best with this rod?
Fatwood, magic cotton, waxed jute, birch bark, charcloth and cattail fluff all ignite easily. For best results pair it with our natural tinders, designed and tested specifically with this rod.
Does it work with gloves on?
Yes. The beech wood handle is shaped for a firm grip even with thick winter gloves. The striker is large enough to control with cold or gloved hands.
What does the striker do besides spark?
The hardened steel striker is precision-ground for clean sparks and also works as a tinder scraper, bottle opener and map ruler, a compact multi-tool for the field.
Is the wood handle treated?
Yes. Every handle is finished by hand with walnut stain and beeswax, a durable, natural finish that protects the wood, ages beautifully and improves grip over time.
