We harvest our Fatwood from dead trees, deep in the forests of the Basque Country, never cutting healthy trees or damaging the surrounding forest. Everything is collected by hand, piece by piece, respecting the landscape and taking only what nature has already given.
Once gathered, each stick is processed and shaped by us. The high concentration of resin makes it extremely easy to ignite. Using the back of your knife or another sharp edge, scrape or shave a small pile of thin Fatwood curls. The finer the shavings, the easier they ignite.
Step 2 — Strike your ferro rod
Hold your ferro rod close to the shavings and direct the sparks into the center of the pile with a firm, controlled strike.
Step 3 — Build your fire
Once the resin-rich shavings ignite, add small dry twigs before gradually feeding larger pieces of wood until your fire is established.
